PURPOSE: To provide vehicles to missionaries who are home on deputation.
GOAL: To provide a fleet of newer vehicles for our missionaries to use.
How did this program start?
One of our pastor’s, Darrell Beebe, had served with his wife and family as missionaries. They had experienced the daunting task of looking for a reliable vehicle when they would return from the field to do the stateside, year-long deputation. Our missionaries are on the field for four years and then come back to our district to visit the churches that have supported them and raise the additional funds needed. This requires many miles of auto travel. Finding and buying a car is relatively easy to do, but selling an automobile at the last minute before returning overseas is a very difficult task. In realizing this first-hand, Darrell was inspired to start the Missionary Automobile Program.
In April 2001, the first auto was made available. It was a 1991 Honda Accord with 186,000 miles on it. To-date, there is a fleet of 10 cars including two 2003 Hyundai Elantras. The missionary makes the request and a vehicle is made available to them. They merely pay a small amount to help with the upkeep of the auto. This has proven to be one of the greatest gifts we can give our missionaries upon their return to the district.
What type of vehicle is being used?
- A vehicle in good working condition. Our missionaries travel up to 20,000 miles per month.
- Sedans, vans, economy cars, SUV’s
